Z radością informujemy, że w dniach 8-22 października 2023 roku gościem Instytutu Filozofii będzie profesor Jeremy David Bendik-Keymer z Case Western Reserve University. Profesor Bendik-Keymer odwiedzi Uniwersytet Wrocławski w ramach programu IDUB "Visiting Professors".
Profesor Bendik-Keymer jest autorem pięciu monografii: The Ecological Life: Discovering Citizenship and a Sense of Humanity (Lanham, MD: Rowman & Littlefield, 2006), Solar Calendar, and Other Ways of Marking Time (Brooklyn, NY: Punctum Books, 2017), The Wind ~ An Unruly Living (Brooklyn, NY: Punctum Books, 2018), Involving Anthroponomy in the Anthropocene: On Decoloniality (z posłowiem autorstwa Julii D. Gibson; London: Routledge, 2020), Nussbaum’s Politics of Wonder: How the Mind’s Original Joy Is Revolutionary (z ilustracjami autorstwa Misty Morrison; London: Bloomsbury, 2023) oraz współredaktorem (wraz z Allenem Thompsonem) tomu Ethical Adaptation to Climate Change: Human Virtues of the Future (Cambridge, MA: MIT Press, 2012). Publikacja jego kolejnej monografii, Earth Relations: An Account of Geological Justness, jest planowana na 2026 rok w wydawnictwie Routledge.
W swoich badaniach profesor Bendik-Keymer zajmuje się przede wszystkim politycznymi i etycznymi odpowiedziami na wyzwania związane z destabilizacją środowiska. Jest również aktywny w obszarze tzw. public philosophy, czyli formy badań filozoficznych nastawionej na przekroczenie barier między akademicką filozofią a szerszym kontekstem społeczno-politycznym. W ramach tej działalności jest obecnie redaktorem serii salonu online na blogu American Philosophical Association's, która stanowi część prowadzonego przez niego cyklu "On Congeniality", a w przeszłości był redaktorem serii esejów na blogu APA. Publikował eseje na takich platformach jak Public Seminar, Hyperallergic, e-Flux i Tikkun oraz przeprowadzał wywiady dla "Boston Review". Był również konsultantem, a następnie redaktorem naczelnym "The Philosopher", najstarszego istniejącego anglojęzycznego publicznego czasopisma filozoficznego, podczas jego przeformułowania z powodu kryzysu finansowego i organizacyjnego w 2022 roku. Na początku XXI wieku współtworzył cotygodniowy talk show w Dubai Eye Radio na temat środowiska naturalnego w Zatoce Perskiej.

We are pleased to announce that Professor Jeremy David Bendik-Keymer from Case Western Reserve University will be the guest of the Institute of Philosophy between October 8-22, 2023. Professor Bendik-Keymer will visit the University of Wroclaw as part of IDUB's “Visiting Professors” program.
Professor Bendik-Keymer is the author of five monographs: The Ecological Life: Discovering Citizenship and a Sense of Humanity (Lanham, MD: Rowman & Littlefield, 2006), Solar Calendar, and Other Ways of Marking Time (Brooklyn, NY: Punctum Books, 2017), The Wind ~ An Unruly Living (Brooklyn, NY: Punctum Books, 2018), Involving Anthroponomy in the Anthropocene: On Decoloniality (with an afterword by Julia D. Gibson; London: Routledge, 2020), Nussbaum's Politics of Wonder: How the Mind's Original Joy Is Revolutionary (with illustrations by Misty Morrison; London: Bloomsbury, 2023), and co-editor (with Allen Thompson) of the volume Ethical Adaptation to Climate Change: Human Virtues of the Future (Cambridge, MA: MIT Press, 2012). Publication of his next monograph, Earth Relations: An Account of Geological Justness, is scheduled for 2026 by Routledge Publishing.
Professor Bendik-Keymer's research focuses on political and ethical responses to the challenges of environmental destabilization. He is also active in the area of so-called public philosophy, a form of philosophical research aiming to transcend the barriers between academic philosophy and the broader socio-political context. As part of this activity, he is currently an editor for the American Philosophical Association's online salon series that forms part of his ongoing series "On Congeniality", has been a past editor of a multi-part, long form essay series for the APA's online daily, has published numerous essays in such venues as Public Seminar, Hyperallergic, e-Flux, and Tikkun, conducted interviews for "Boston Review", and was the consultant and then contributing editor for "The Philosopher", the oldest existing Anglophone public philosophy journal during its reformulation due to a financial and organizational crisis in 2022. In the early 2000s, he co-created a weekly talk show on Dubai Eye Radio about the environment reaching around the Persian Gulf.
